Rapunzel Braid Hairstyle DIY

I honestly cannot contain my excitement as I write this. I have always wanted to be a Disney princess and last year I made a promise to myself that I was going to go out of my comfort zone and jump into creative projects that brought me joy. One of projects was to do hairstyles inspired bythe Disney princesses because… well why not?

With Spring in full swing I decided to kickstart this series with a Rapunzel Braid Hairstyle DIY! Let me just say that I do not know how to braid at ALL, and this one seemed to be pretty easy to do. I recruited my new friend Abigail (who I met at the gym through my personal training!), to help me bring my vision to life! She literally came into my life right when I decided to branch out and explore my creativity in other mediums and I am so happy I got to collaborate with her. Isn’t if funny how the Universe works sometimes?

I've always dreamed of being a Disney princess, and that's exactly how I felt when creating this Rapunzel Braid Hairstyle DIY! The perfect spring hairdo!

Now I’m going to walk you through this easy DIY Rapunzel braid hairstyle. For this look all you need is some bobby pins, elastic bands and some faux silk flowers (which you can get at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby!).

prep:

To get the perfect hair canvas you want to blow-dry your hair with a round brush. This type of styling will look good on all hair textures, the curlier you leave your hair, the more boho it will look — if you make it straighter, the more sleek the result. I would suggest using volumizing and texture products for the look to take hold and last longer. Abigail used a Wet Brush, Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair and Paul Mitchell Invisible Orbit Hair Spray.

step one:

Grab some hair wisps that frame your face and separate them from the rest of your hair. Take a “U” section out of the crown area, and create a three strand braid. This doesn’t have to be perfect by any means, but try to make it as secure as possible because it’s the foundation for the entire style. Use a small elastic to tie the end.

step two:

Begin taking small sections from each side of the braid. Twist the strand of hair inwards loosely. This is a little tricky but once you get the hang of it it’s actually super easy! Grab that twisted strand and pull it through the first section of the braid.

step three:

Essentially, you are going to be “looping” each twist into the hair making your way to the end of the braid. Make sure that you are making your twists the same thickness so that the final style looks balanced! Use a bobby pin to secure if necessary.

step four:

Once you have finished putting the twisted sections through the three stand braid, you should have something that looks like a wide twisty braid. At the bottom you can loop a piece of hair and secure with an elastic.

step five:

Take your faux flowers and remove the floral from the stem. Slide a bobby pin into the flower making sure that it will slide horizontally into your hair. I chose two different colored flowers to give the whole look more of a spring look. You can also experiment with different sizes too!

step six:

For the final touch, take the front sections that we left out at the beginning, twist and pin back into the side of your head. Make sure that these pieces are framing your face and then add a small flower on the side.

And there you have it! I promise it is easier than it looks and you don’t need to be a braid expert! Seriously had so much fun with this look, I even brought out a frying pan because… as Flynn Ryder would say… Frying pans, who knew?!

I am so excited to be continuing on this series and share with you guys some more Disney inspired hairstyles that are subtle and so much fun. I am so glad I jumped out of my comfort zone, faced my fears and started exploring other creative outlets!
